Over the past two decades, the dominant theme of the lighting industry has been energy efficiency.

From incandescent lamps to LEDs, from traditional light sources to high-efficacy chips, from standalone lighting to intelligent controls, the industry has made tremendous progress in efficiency, cost, scale, and supply chain capabilities.

But today, we are entering a new phase. Light is no longer only about illuminating spaces; it is redefining the relationship between people and environments.

Across offices, education, healthcare, wellness, hospitality, residential, commercial, and urban environments, more stakeholders are asking:

  • How can visual comfort be validated?
  • How can circadian rhythm and sleep be designed through lighting?
  • How are mood, focus, relaxation, and recovery connected to light environments?
  • Can “good light” be measured, documented, compared, and continuously optimized?

This is the direction GLGA aims to advance.

We believe healthy lighting cannot be achieved by a single company, product, standard, or conference. It requires collaboration across the entire value chain — connecting science, standards, design, manufacturing, controls, applications, and market ecosystems.

Healthy lighting should not remain limited to expressions such as “brighter,” “smarter,” or “more premium.”

The future of good light needs to take into account vision, circadian rhythm, comfort, emotion, context, time, and the real human experience.
Through international exchange, expert consensus, industry publications, closed-door discussions, and public communication,

GLGA hopes to establish a clearer language system and conceptual framework for the industry.

2. Advancing Standard Interfaces: Moving Healthy Light from Concept to Data

Healthy lighting development requires measurable and verifiable foundations.

GLGA is currently focused on topics such as:

  • More complete spectral and α-opic data expression for LED sources and luminaires
  • Integration of CIE S 026 metrics into products, design workflows, and applications
  • Translating EDI / DER metrics from laboratories into engineering practice
  • Potential future “HCL-ready” interfaces for luminaires, light sources, and systems
  • Integration of healthy lighting data into design software and BMS / LMS systems

Our goal is not to reinvent standards, but to help the industry understand, connect, and apply existing international scientific and standards-based achievements in real products, spaces, and projects.

3. Driving Scenario Validation: Making Good Light Visible, Experiential, and Verifiable

Healthy lighting must return to real environments.

Offices, schools, hospitals, elderly care, hotels, homes, commercial spaces, and cities are not abstract scenarios. Different users, activities, schedules, materials, spectra, and control logics all influence the final experience.

GLGA is developing scenario-based validation frameworks, including:

Measurement methodologies, data structures, field validation, and project assessment.

WG-3: Scientific Research & Reproducibility

Research design, collaborative studies, and scientific evidence.

Real-world implementations across office, education, healthcare, hospitality, residential, and commercial applications.

WG-5: Communication & Industry Mobilization

5. Recent Key Initiatives: From “Good Light Wake-up Call” to deLIGHTed Talks Asia

In recent months, GLGA has been continuously advancing multiple initiatives focused on the industrial implementation of healthy lighting.

1. Good Light Wake-up Call: Reawakening the Industry

Good Light Wake-up Call is not a slogan.

It reminds us that the lighting industry already possesses strong manufacturing capabilities, supply chain strength, and product development capacity. However, when it comes to “real human experience,” “health value,” “validation of spatial light environments,” and “next-generation industry rules,” we still need to invest more proactively.

Good light should not remain a subjective judgment by designers, nor merely a high-end marketing term used by manufacturers.

Instead, good light should gradually become an industry capability that can be measured, validated, designed, and delivered.

2. deLIGHTed Talks Asia 2026: Building a High-Quality Dialogue Platform for Healthy Light in Asia

GLGA is currently preparing deLIGHTed Talks Asia 2026, which is planned to be held alongside the Guangzhou International Lighting Exhibition (GILE). The event will bring together international scientists, standards organizations, designers, manufacturers, building owners, application stakeholders, and industry partners to jointly advance high-quality dialogue on healthy lighting.

The program will include: closed-door meetings of standards and working groups, international keynote speeches, healthy lighting forums, small-circle networking sessions, HCL exhibition and demonstration scenarios, and cross-disciplinary dialogue between manufacturers, designers, building owners, and research experts.

The intention is not to create a conventional forum, but to establish a starting point for real industry collaboration.

3. HCL Zone (Healthy Lighting Exhibition Area): Bringing Concepts into Real Experience

GLGA is actively developing the Healthy Lighting Exhibition Zone, aiming to demonstrate through real-world scenarios:

  • the relationship between spectral design and spatial experience
  • the relationship between circadian rhythm and time control
  • the relationship between white light, colored light, and emotional atmosphere
  • the relationship between sensing, monitoring, and intelligent control
  • the relationship between data validation and spatial design
  • how products, systems, and applications can work together

Healthy lighting should not exist only in presentations or academic papers. It must enter real spaces—where it can be experienced, and where data can speak for itself.

4. LED α-opic Data and Next-Generation Product Interfaces

GLGA is currently encouraging collaboration among LED source, luminaire, and system companies to pay closer attention to α-opic data representation.

In the future, if LED sources, luminaires, control systems, and design software can better support metrics such as EDI / DER, healthy lighting design will move beyond experiential judgment and evolve toward a more complete data-driven chain.

This shift will help the industry move beyond focusing solely on luminous efficacy, CRI, and CCT, toward a more comprehensive understanding of human vision, circadian rhythm, and lived experience.

5. Wide-Gamut White Light, Colored Light, and Emotional Lighting

With the development of multi-channel LEDs, RGBW, RGBA, full-spectrum, and wide-gamut technologies, colored light and dynamic white light are becoming increasingly important directions.

However, colored light is not easy to master. It involves not only aesthetics, but also comfort, glare control, light pollution, visual adaptation, emotional response, and spatial quality.

GLGA hopes to work with capable member companies to advance research and application in colored lighting, wide-gamut white light, emotional lighting, and control logic. The goal is to avoid the industry remaining at the level of “visual spectacle,” and instead move toward more refined, restrained, and verifiable spatial light experiences.
