Update | Two GLGA Core Members Appointed to the IWBI “WELL Light Concept Advisory” Group

Two core members of GLGA are once again / simultaneously appointed to the IWBI “WELL Light Concept Advisory” group

Good Light Wake-up Call is more than just a slogan.

When light is taken seriously as a form of health infrastructure, it moves from ideas to standards, from shared understanding to real-world delivery.

Recently, the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) announced the members of the WELL Building Standard – Light Concept Advisory group. We are honored to share that:

  • Lawrence Lin (林纪良) | CEO, Lighting Recipe Studio — reappointed as Advisor
  • Daniel Cheng (成昱 / Yu Cheng) | Secretary-General, Good Light Group Asia — appointed as Advisor

This is not only a personal honor, but also an important affirmation of GLGA’s Good Light Wake-up Call direction:

Healthy light must be measurable, verifiable, and operable over time in order to truly become part of long-term building delivery.

01 | What Is the Light Concept Advisory — and Why Does It Matter?

The Light Concept Advisory provides professional guidance to WELL, with a core objective:

To guide how WELL integrates lighting systems that enhance alertness, improve experience, and support sleep.

In other words, WELL is not only concerned with whether light is “bright enough” or “looks good,” but with how light affects people:

  • Does it support alertness and focus during the day?
  • Does it reduce unnecessary physiological stimulation at night and support sleep?
  • Can it be verified, maintained, and sustained in real spaces — not just delivered once?

This aligns exactly with what we have long emphasized:

“Good light” is not a product, but a system — one that is implementable, deliverable, and sustainably operable.

02 | What These Dual Appointments Signal: Healthy Light Enters the “Deliverable Era”

For many years, discussions around healthy lighting have often stayed at three levels:

  • Talking about concepts (often correct)
  • Talking about effects (often compelling)
  • Talking about products (often lively)

But the real challenge lies in a fourth level:

How do we translate healthy light into engineering language — designable, verifiable, maintainable, and auditable?

This is the core proposition behind GLGA’s Good Light Wake-up Call initiative:

  • From task-plane illuminance to eye-plane light
  • From subjective experience descriptions to data and thresholds
  • From one-time delivery to long-term compliance and adaptability

As IWBI continues to bring cross-disciplinary experts and industry forces into the Light Concept Advisory, it signals that healthy lighting is moving:

  • From trend to standard system
  • From discussion to executable frameworks

03 | Congratulations to Daniel Cheng on His Appointment

Especially worth celebrating is the appointment of Daniel Cheng, Secretary-General of Good Light Group Asia, as a Light Concept Advisory member.

This not only recognizes Daniel’s personal expertise, but also reflects how GLGA’s efforts in Asia — building shared understanding + deliverable frameworks for good light — are increasingly aligned with international standards.

At GLGA, we have always prioritized doing over talking:

  • Connecting the industry value chain
  • Aligning standard languages
  • Promoting pilots and verification
  • Bringing “good light” from slogans into real buildings

Daniel’s participation will help bring more real-world Asian scenarios, data, and methods into the evolution of WELL’s light concept.

04 | Thanks to IWBI — and to Every “Good Light Partner”

Within this advisory group, we are pleased to see experts and partners from lighting, architecture, engineering, sustainability, and industry around the world.

Healthy light is not something that any single company or organization can achieve alone.

It requires the entire value chain to work together on three things:

  • Shared understanding: What is good light?
  • Metrics & thresholds: How do we measure it, and in what language?
  • Delivery systems: How do we design, verify, operate, and maintain long-term compliance?

GLGA is committed to being a practical enabler:

Turning standards into engineering,
engineering into systems,
and systems into long-term, deliverable healthy environments.

Closing | Good Light Wake-up Call: From Today On, We Must Deliver

These dual appointments are both an encouragement and a reminder for GLGA:

The real challenge is not being on the list — it is delivering “good light” into more real buildings.

Let’s work together to ensure that:

  • Good light becomes a standard, not just an idea
  • Good light becomes a system, not just a product
  • Good light becomes long-term delivery, not just a one-time inspection

Our sincere thanks to IWBI, and congratulations once again to Lawrence Lin and Daniel Cheng.

We also welcome more partners to join GLGA’s Good Light Wake-up Call movement.
